OpenMetal Public Cloud Alternative Provider

OpenMetal Clouds have an advantage of up to 3.5x compared to traditional public clouds.

Your initial deployment is an on-demand OpenStack Private Cloud Core (PCC). Private Cloud Cores expand horizontally with Cloud Expansion Nodes, Bare Metal, and Ceph Storage Clusters. PCCs are built on hardware assigned exclusively to you. Gain full control over the privacy, security, and governance of your infrastructure, in contrast to public cloud provider services.

The primary advantage private cloud has over public comes from a basic fundamental difference – you are leasing all the resources of the hardware and not just the virtual resources. This means when you provision a VM you can provision the size you need, but during the time that VM is not spiking to consume the top level limit of the VM, those previously wasted resources are accessible via your private cloud software to be used by your other VMs.

In public cloud, your wasted resources are often designed to be reclaimed by the public cloud to be resold to other users!

It’s really awesome to work with someone who’s aligned culturally to the same type of mission that we are. And it’s really provided us with the ability to innovate and differentiate from the masses that are out there all using the same hyperscalers.

Tom Fanelli, CEO & Co-Founder @ Convesio

Convesio has pioneered new innovations in the WordPress hosting space since its founding in 2018. Their trajectory, however, was being stifled by outrageous costs, lackluster support, and inflexibility via AWS and GCP. They set out to find cloud providers that they could work closer with to help them continue to revolutionize and grow their platform.

Improve Performance With Tuned Clouds

Public clouds were not built for your specific use case. With private cloud, numerous modification are available with your root level configuration options, including some of the options below.

Development Pipeline Acceleration

  • In dev pipelines, most (or all) data being produced and manipulated is ephemeral. It must be processed quickly, but it is often throwaway. VMs with direct NVMe storage will move that data through the system faster than you ever have before.
  • When your team is ready, Kubernetes is native to the private cloud and is self-service for the developers, meaning no complicated interaction between dev and systems.
  • Development teams can be assigned self-service virtual private clouds that are self-contained, with API first, CLI, and GUI enabled. Get your developers on their way fast.

Database Acceleration

  • Create specific VM flavors that match your database needs. Need 32vCPU with 8GB of RAM for your MariaDB? Easy. Want 32GB of vRAM with 8vCPUs for your Redis? Sure.
  • Select specific disk I/O performance for your databases. For example, massive performance gains come from running your replicated databases in VMs using direct NVMe storage. Galera, for example, already has replication at the database level. Don’t introduce lag by using block storage on slow network storage or even RAID.

Compute Options

  • Sometimes VMs are the right tool, sometimes containers are better, and sometimes containers in VMs are the best. All are native to your private cloud.
  • Create your own flavors for resource allotments.
  • Restrict to your company-approved OS images.
  • Addition of servers for your GPUs, FPGAs, and other specific hardware is supported.

Object Storage Efficiencies and Acceleration

  • Compression on the fly during object placement can dramatically increase the efficiency of your storage pool. Think 10TB only taking up 7TB once stored.
  • Data transformations can be done on the fly during object placement and thus can alleviate costly work in your applications.
  • Object placement is much faster when the compute and object storage are right on the same switches and VLANs. And, there are no transfer fees.

Wondering if something is supported? Review OpenStack services or Ceph object storage.

The Journey from Public Clouds to OpenMetal

If you are responsible for driving profitability in your company, you know how expensive public cloud can be. A proprietary (DIY) private cloud is typically a more cost-effective option, but carries significant risk of failure, time delays, and OpEx efficiency problems.

To resolve these challenges, OpenMetal, an alternative cloud provider, has built an on-demand cloud platform that brings the best of traditional public cloud, private cloud, and bare metal fused into an open source platform.

Cut Public Cloud Costs by 50% (or More)

Reduce public cloud bills by removing proprietary vendor fees, optimizing available resources, lowering egress costs, and much more.

Deploy Clouds in 45 Seconds or Less

Spin up single-tenant clouds in less than a minute on a Private Cloud Core (PCC) assigned exclusively to you.

Control Your Hardware Performance

Get root access to your managed servers to customize configurations for optimal performance.
