Storage Servers with 4x 1.92TB NVMe SSDs and 12x 12TB HDDs

The OpenMetal Large v1 Storage Server is designed to deliver reliable, high-capacity storage with a strong foundation for modern cloud infrastructure needs. It offers a balanced mix of spinning disk for bulk storage and enterprise NVMe flash for performance-sensitive operations. The default configuration includes:

  • 12 x 12TB HDDs (144TB raw capacity):
Ideal for storing large datasets, backups, or cold data with high-density, cost-effective storage.
  • 4 x 1.92TB NVMe SSDs (7.68TB total):
Accelerates journaling, caching, and metadata operations, supporting faster response times for critical storage functions.
  • 1 x 256GB Boot Disk:
A separate disk dedicated to the operating system and base services, maintaining clean separation from the primary storage layers.
  • 4 Hot-Swappable NVMe Bays:
Enables future upgrades or drive replacements without interrupting service or rebooting the server.

These NVMe SSDs provide fast access and low-latency performance, suitable for Ceph journaling or caching layers in a storage cluster. While this v1 server comes with 1.92TB NVMe drives by default, OpenMetal can provide custom upgrade paths upon request to enhance flash capacity or endurance depending on workload requirements.

Scalable Storage with a 3-Server Cluster

Deployed as part of a 3-node cluster, the OpenMetal Large v1 servers can serve as the foundation for a scalable and highly available Ceph-based storage platform:

  • 432TB raw HDD capacity (3 servers x 144TB)
  • 23TB total NVMe SSD capacity (default) — upgradeable with custom configurations
  • Ceph-optimized architecture supporting block, file, and object storage
  • Tiered storage model:
    • HDDs for cold or archival data
    • NVMe SSDs for hot data, journals, and metadata
  • Built-in data redundancy through Ceph replication and erasure coding
  • Flexible upgrade path to grow with your data needs over time

Purpose-Built for Performance and Efficiency

At the core of the Large v1 Storage Server is a balanced hardware architecture that delivers solid I/O throughput, sufficient compute for storage tasks, and the flexibility to adapt as storage demands evolve. Whether you’re running high-volume backups, hosting archival object storage, or building a block storage layer for virtual machines, the OpenMetal Large v1 Storage Server provides dependable, cost-efficient infrastructure to support your growth.
