Coverage Initiation: InMotion Hosting’s OpenMetal positions its OpenStack-based private cloud as a cheaper hyperscaler alternative

This market impact report was created by William Fellows, Research Director at 451 Research.

THE TAKE: Hoping to catch the wave of opportunity presented by demand for hosted and on-premises private cloud services, InMotion Hosting has spun off a project it has been incubating for a couple of years, calling it OpenMetal.

The company’s offerings are positioned as a way for organizations to access the benefits of cloud, at scale, on dedicated resources, both as a cheaper alternative to public cloud for existing hyperscale users and for traditional IT or colocation users seeking a way into cloud. The economics are claimed in part to be due to OpenMetal’s use of the OSS OpenStack.

“The solution we found with OpenMetal was perfect because we are now able to spin up new environments very cost-effectively, get to market faster with our solutions, and still create an agile environment that supports existing production customers while enabling net-new customer opportunities.”
