OpenStack Cloud Private Pods Outline

Pods are highly automated hardware delivery systems.

Networking

Pods handle all networking and network automation below your edge routers.

Servers

Pods spin up, track, spin down, clean, and reallocate servers on the fly.

Racks

Pods come in 3 to 20 rack versions. 2+ pods can be used in 1 or more locations.

Scaling

Flexibility to grow and shrink your pod as needed over time.

“Open Metal automates highly complex open source to empower teams to build new technologies faster and create lasting innovations for their companies.

Deployment Considerations

Utilizing a standard set of hardware allows costs and delivery times to be minimized.

Minimum Deployment

3 racks, 1/3 capacity deployed. Approximately 90 1/2U servers and up to 384 blade servers. Typical deployment is a blend of blades, 1U block storage, and 1/2U hyper-converged/compute.

Largest Pod

20 racks can support 1000+ servers, top efficiency petabyte object clusters, 10,000+ VMs/containers, extreme IOPS NVMe over fabric, more. Can replace whole data centers.

Costs are variable based on your requirements

Cost: A recent AWS bill we analyzed was paying $859K/mo for what we can offer at $329K/mo.

Cost:  A recent AWS bill we analyzed was paying $4.46M/mo for what we can offer at $2.9M/mo.

Your Customer Success Team

Account Managers

The gateway to the team that can quickly assess the next steps.

Engineers

Ready to guide, train, and configure against your priorities.

Business Analysts

Calculate ROIs, manage migrations, keep the teams aligned.

Executive Sponsors

Accountable executives are available to your leadership as needed.

When Should You Consider Engaging OpenMetal?

First, we really like to talk to our customers or potential customers, so don’t hesitate to contact our team anytime. If you are wondering when we might be the most valuable to you, here are a few questions that we often get:

This comes up a lot. The decision depends on how much you are spending and if you have other deployments in addition to AWS or other public clouds. If you are under $1000/mo, the public cloud is probably a good fit for you. Between $1000/mo and $2000/mo, the self-service On-Demand Private Cloud will save you a bit and lock down your budget. Between $2k and $10k/mo, you will see substantial savings and performance improvements. Between $10k and $50k, you will find significant improvements and, typically, large savings. Above that, you are almost certainly spending too much and getting too little. A recent AWS bill we analyzed was paying $859K/mo for what we can offer at $329K/mo.

This is accomplished with our private pods. This is typically for large companies with significant data center investment and often open resources like power and space. We would love to help you bring highly automated deployments to your corporate users right in your data center.

Our team has prepared excellent documentation for many situations, but sometimes a quick standup can save days or even weeks of work. For large deployments, we offer easy access, including over Slack, to our engineers so you can quickly communicate barriers, ideas, and plans.

If you have a group of system administrators, engineers, or DevOps, you are well-positioned to maximize on-demand private infrastructure. Let’s put our great engineers together first. Running an already provisioned cloud is much more manageable than architecting and building one. We love it when companies build OpenStack clouds, but we suggest using one of our prebuilt clouds first. Also, we don’t offer consulting for ground-up clouds at this time, but we are happy to refer you to our ecosystem partners.

The greatest challenge with OpenStack has always been architecting the cloud, including hardware, networking, software, etc. In this case, we have done the heavy lifting and OpenStack and Ceph clouds are delivered on demand. Your team can start with administering an OpenStack instead of architecting it from scratch.

OpenMetal Platform for Cloud Migration

OpenMetal Platform for Cloud Migration

Organizations can use OpenMetal to migrate their on-premise hardware to either an on-premise private pod or a secure, completely private off-premise hosted cloud. Gain visibility into cloud usage, simplify cloud operations and cut infrastructure costs. Get direct control over your private cloud hardware and scale on-demand based on your business goals. Our private cloud hosting architecture includes a hyper-converged cloud core with Ceph object storage, bare metal cloud, and converged and non-converged compute and storage options.
