Object Storage With Ceph
All OpenMetal clouds come with Ceph-based block and object storage supplied by the private Cloud Core (PCC). The S3 compatible Ceph object gateway is accessible independent of OpenStack or through OpenStack. This allows you to provision independent object storage deployments including 1+ petabytes on demand.
Full Admin to Leverage all the Power of Ceph Storage Systems
OpenMetal’s object storage component is powered by Ceph, an open source enterprise software storage platform. Ceph provides exabyte-level storage with no single point of failure, resulting in a completely distributed operation. All OpenMetal clouds give you full root access to all members of the deployment. The OpenMetal team does not have access to your infrastructure, this is your private infrastructure. You will need to add us if you need any assistance. This allows you to configure Ceph for your specific use cases.
Control your replication levels, erasure coding options, even compression-on-the-fly options.
Use your NVMe drives as fast storage or accelerate large-scale spinner deployments.
Replicate an existing Ceph cluster to this cluster for data recovery purposes.
Replicate cluster out to another OpenMetal cloud or to any other Ceph cluster you administer.
Your Ceph storage cluster will be provisioned with the latest stable Nautilus or choose a bare metal deployment to select your own version.
OpenMetal Cloud Networking Top FAQs
What is Ceph object storage?
Ceph provides the network storage including block storage, object storage, and if needed, NFS-compatible file storage called CephFS. All OpenMetal clouds come with Ceph-based block and object storage supplied by the private Cloud Core.
How do I get help with Ceph?
In addition to our complimentary, paid, and self-guided training, your account manager can also connect you with skilled resources in the Ceph open source community. Options include support levels appropriate for small, medium, and large customers.
Can I use the boot drive for data storage or part of a Ceph pool?
No, this is not recommended unless it is an emergency or a similar temporary situation. Those drives are not intended for heavy use and are not rated for high disk writes per day.
How does Ceph work on the on-demand OpenMetal private cloud?
Ceph can employ five distinct daemons that are all fully distributed and can run on the same set of servers, allowing users to interact directly with them: Ceph monitors, Ceph managers, metadata servers, object storage devices, and representational state transfer. Object storage functionality has an interface that works with the Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) RESTful API.
