Cloud Monitoring Feature Details

Cloud Monitoring – Included

Cloud services are becoming more complex. That complexity grows further when you begin to combine different hybrid cloud and bare models and/or combinations with on-premises services. To simplify these complex systems, OpenMetal Clouds include built-in cloud monitoring services from Datadog that allow you to review and document critical operational data from your cloud.

This gives you visibility into key metrics, as well as the ability to receive notifications and alerts on potential issues and support to help diagnose them quickly.

What is Cloud Monitoring with Datadog?

Datadog is a monitoring and security platform for cloud applications that has been recognized as a Leader by Gartner® in the 2022 Magic Quadrant™ for APM and Observability.

OpenMetal Clouds rely on Datadog to execute real-time monitoring of performance metrics and events on the OpenStack platform that powers OpenMetal Clouds, as well as the underlying Ceph distributed storage layer.

“When it came time to look into a comprehensive monitoring solution, we needed something that oversees all the layers of our deployments, not just the metrics from OpenStack.”

Chris Bermudez, Director of DevOps Engineering OpenMetal

Visualization Metrics

Our cloud monitoring allows you to get visualization over key operating metrics.

Hypervisor

Initiate and oversee the VMs to minimize issues with provisioning and operational performance.

Nova Server

Get info on instances operating on computation nodes to ensure that loads are being distributed evenly.

Tenant Metrics

Fully exploit the available resources and help inform requests for quota increases should the need arise.

RabbitMQ

See the full OpenStack environment to detect  environment and users issues before the happen.

You can easily create a tailored dashboard to monitor your OpenStack as well as your entire stack by adding additional graphs and metrics from your other systems.

What is Monitored?

Ensure the health and performance of your deployment with cloud monitoring that provides visibility into events such as:

Hypervisor Loads

Hypervisor load represents the system load over the last minute for a given hypervisor.

Current Workloads

The current workload metric is a count of all the currently active hypervisor operations.

Running VMs

The number of virtual machines currently running, which can be aggregated by host.

vCPUs Available

Each hypervisor reports the current number of CPUs allocated and the maximum number available.

Free Disk

The amount of disk space (in gigabytes) currently available for allocation, aggregated by physical host.

Free RAM

The amount of RAM available to spawn new instances or resize instances to larger flavors.

Why Do You Need Cloud Monitoring?

Cloud monitoring ensures that the foundation of your cloud is providing optimal performance to support your  applications.

While OpenMetal is responsible for managing the physical hardware of your cloud, you will still be required to install and configure your software.
