Fair egress for your cloud, bare metal, and storage clusters.

Each hardware unit in your cloud, bare metal, or storage cluster deployment comes with a certain amount of egress. For use cases that exceed the included egress, OpenMetal charges by the megabit at the 95% percentile. This will flatten bursting and leads to a more controlled cost. For most use cases this style of averaging your usage has significant advantage over per GB billing.

The egress calculations below include average costs from the known very large providers. You can refer to their egress cost calculator to verify. Rounding for readability has been done below.

*To convert to Mbps from TBs we use a typical traffic pattern where 70% of your traffic occurs within an 8 hour period each day. Your pattern may vary and costs are lower if your traffic pattern is spread out further and higher if more concentrated.

*Included with hardware uses the same TB to Mbps conversion. We used egress allotments for Large V4 Cloud Core – 1Gbps per server. See the hardware specs for the different allotments.

Cloud Egress Pricing FAQs, Eligibility, and Usage Restrictions

Exactly how much will I pay per month?

Egress costs are one of the few items that have variable charging. This is due to your traffic varying.

If you have a specific budget and are willing to cap certain types of traffic our team can recommend ways of controlling this from within your cloud or from your bare metal. One benefit of 95% percentile billing is that if you see half way through the month that are on pace to exceed your budget, you can decrease your usage and your average will fall.

I run a CDN and would like to use OpenMetal for part of that CDN. Is that ok?

Yes, and thanks for asking. CDNs are very bandwidth intensive and can require some special care so please get in touch with us.
