Neutron is an OpenStack project that provides network connectivity as a service (NaaS) in virtual environments. Neutron allows you to utilize different networking technologies to power your cloud and is managed by other OpenStack services like Nova.
Create, manage, and optimize large scale deployments easily with our OpenMetal Cloud Hosting.
Through a powerful API, you’re able to define network connectivity and IP addressing in the cloud. The API has a virtual network, subnet, and port abstractions to describe networking resources. Similarly, the Compute API, which gives you control over instances and networks, has a virtual server abstraction to describe computing resources.
Neutron Resources
When configuring network topologies, you can create and configure networks and subnets, as well as order additional OpenStack services, like Compute, to attach virtual devices to ports on the networks.
Neutron supports and allows each project to have multiple private networks and enables projects to choose their own IP addressing scheme, no matter if those IP addresses are being used by other projects.
Overall, Neutron:
- Authorizes advanced cloud networking uses, like building multi-layered web applications and enabling the migration of applications to the cloud without changing IP addresses.
- Provides adjustability for administrators to modify network offerings.
- Enables developers to extend the Neutron API, allowing the extended functionality to become part of the core Neutron API overtime.
