Q: Which OpenMetal servers are TDX-capable at their base configuration?
The XL v4 and XL v5 are TDX-capable at their base configuration, which meets Intel’s memory-population gate. TDX is not enabled by default: you enable it yourself in the server BIOS, following OpenMetal’s documentation.
Whether a server is TDX-capable is determined by how its memory is populated. A server qualifies when every memory channel’s first slot is filled symmetrically across both sockets, which on this platform is the 1 TB fill. Meeting that gate makes the server TDX-capable; TDX still ships turned off, and you enable it in the server BIOS yourself, following OpenMetal’s documentation. The servers that meet the gate at their base configuration:
- XL v4: 1,024 GB DDR5 (2x Xeon Gold 6530, 64C/128T) — meets the gate at its base configuration
- XL v5: 1,024 GB DDR5-6400 (2x Xeon 6530P Granite Rapids, 64C/128T) — meets the gate at base, no memory change
The Large v4 and Large v5 are TDX upgrade-eligible: both have 8 open DIMM slots that can be populated to reach the 1 TB gate, after which you enable TDX in BIOS. That RAM upgrade is a customer-initiated change coordinated with the OpenMetal team, and component pricing and lead time are quoted at the time of order.
