Q: Does OpenMetal support VxLAN on bare metal servers?
Yes, OpenMetal supports VXLAN on bare metal servers by layering overlay networks on top of the dedicated VLANs assigned to each customer.
Each bare metal deployment starts with hardware-level VLAN isolation, where every customer receives dedicated VLANs carrying private traffic across dual 10 Gbps interfaces per server. VXLAN is then available as an overlay on top of these VLANs, enabling tenant isolation, container network overlays, or complex topologies without requiring changes to the underlying physical infrastructure. This two-layer approach gives customers the flexibility to segment workloads logically while retaining the performance and isolation of dedicated network fabric.
For customers running a Hosted Private Cloud alongside bare metal, VXLAN is managed through OpenStack Neutron and supports virtual private networks with custom IP ranges, subnets, and firewall rules. Bare metal servers connected to the same VLAN infrastructure can participate in these overlay networks, making it possible to extend software-defined networking across both bare metal and cloud workloads within a single deployment.

Network configuration, including VXLAN setup, is accessible through OpenMetal Central, the OpenStack Horizon dashboard, and the OpenStack API, giving customers programmatic control over overlay network creation and management.
