Q: Can I upgrade the RAM on a deployed OpenMetal bare metal server?
RAM upgrades are available on deployed OpenMetal bare metal servers by contacting the OpenMetal team to schedule the hardware change.
The Large v4 ships with 512 GB DDR5-5200 across 8 of its 16 DIMM slots, leaving 8 slots open for expansion. Upgrading to 1 TB (filling all 16 slots) also activates Intel TDX support for hardware-isolated confidential computing. The XL v4 and XXL v4 ship with 1 TB and 2 TB respectively, with TDX enabled by default.
RAM upgrades do not require replacing existing modules. OpenMetal populates open DIMM slots with matched DDR5 DIMMs to maintain balanced memory channel configuration. The upgrade requires a maintenance window since the server must be powered down for physical hardware installation. Contact your Account Manager or Account Engineer through the private Slack channel to coordinate scheduling and discuss the configuration options for your specific server model.
