Q: How does the OpenMetal Medium v4 TDX Edition compare to the Large v4 TDX Edition?
Both the Medium v4 and Large v4 TDX Editions run Intel TDX with 1 TB of RAM, but the Large v4 offers more cores, faster memory, twice the NVMe storage, and higher public bandwidth — at a higher monthly cost.
The Medium v4 TDX Edition is the right choice for workloads where isolation matters more than throughput: key management infrastructure (HashiCorp Vault, PKI), compliance audit pipelines, blockchain validator key protection, and PHI processing at smaller patient volumes. The 24-core / 6.4 TB profile is sufficient for these use cases without paying for the Large v4’s additional capacity.
The Large v4 TDX Edition is better suited for higher TD concurrency — running 8-16 simultaneous Trust Domains — larger encrypted in-memory databases that benefit from ~666 GB/s memory bandwidth, ML inference pipelines on sensitive data requiring more NVMe throughput, and multi-tenant SaaS platforms with higher per-tenant resource requirements. The 8 additional cores and faster DDR5-5200 also benefit latency-sensitive regulated workloads under concurrent load.
Both servers are TDX-upgrade-eligible rather than TDX-enabled by default, meaning the 1 TB RAM configuration must be requested at order time or scheduled as an upgrade on a deployed server.
